Fox News – Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg erroneously labeled South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham as one of the “women of the Senate” on Monday.
Ginsburg’s misstatement came in her remarks upon accepting an Allegheny College award given to her and the late Justice Antonin Scalia for civility in public life. Hours after Justice Neil Gorsuch was sworn in to replace Scalia, Ginsburg took to the podium in calling on lawmakers to work together, but mistakenly identified South Carolina’s senior senator as a woman.
“I thought back to the 1993 confirmation of my nomination to the court—the hearing was altogether civil, the vote was 96 to 3. For Justice Scalia, the vote was unanimous,” Ginsburg said. “Let’s hope members of Congress, the members that Allegheny College has already honored — Vice President Joe Biden and Senator John McCain, the women of the Senate, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Lindsey Graham — let’s hope that they and others of goodwill will lead in restoring harmonious work ways.”
I’m not really quite sure why there are parents out there that find it acceptable to name their children something that’s more appropriate for the opposite sex. Sure, there are gender-neutral names like Jamie, Jesse, and Pat that can easily go either way. But Lindsey? Who in the fuck names a boy Lindsey? That’s like the equivalent of someone naming a girl Johnathon. It just doesn’t make any goddamn sense. Parents that do this to their children have no souls. Look, I have the same name name as my dad, and I find it to be a giant pain in the ass at times. Can’t even imagine what it would be like to have 99.9% of humanity think you’re a woman when you clearly have a set of dick and balls, though. Seems brutal if you ask me.
At the same token, I’m not really sure what this says about appointing Supreme Court Justices for life (essentially). Not the best look by Ruth (84) here to refer to the only famous man in United States’ politics that goes by a woman’s name as, you know, a woman. Classic mix up! Or is it?
