Here’s the rest of Viola Davis’s speech in case you need any more evidence to convince you that this woman is an absolute nutjob (via The New York Times):

Thank you to the academy. You know, there’s one place that all the people with the greatest potential are gathered. One place, and that’s the graveyard. People ask me all the time: “What kind of stories do you want to tell, Viola?” And I say, exhume those bodies, exhume those stories. The stories of the people who dreamed big and never saw those dreams to fruition, people who fell in love and lost. I became an artist — and thank God I did — because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life.

So here’s to August Wilson, who exhumed and exalted the ordinary people. And to Paramount [and the producers] for being the cheerleaders for a movie that is about people, and words, and life, and forgiveness, and grace. And to [fellow cast members, including Mykelti Williamson and Stephen McKinley Henderson] for being the most wonderful artists I’ve ever worked with.

And oh captain, my captain, Denzel Washington. Thank you for putting two entities in the driving seat: August and God. And they served you well. And to [my parents] who were and are the center of my universe. The people who taught me good or bad, how to fail, how to love, how to hold an award, how to lose. My parents: I’m so thankful that God chose you to bring me into this world. To my sisters … thank you for the imagination. And to my husband and my daughter. My heart. You … teach me every day how to live, how to love. I’m so glad that you are the foundation of my life. Thank you to the academy. Thank you.

How out of touch from reality do you have to be to make a statement like that? So actors are really the only professionals on planet earth that celebrate what it means to live a life? That’s beyond arrogance. Actually, that’s straight insanity. This woman is batshit crazy.

Is Viola Davis really insinuating other professionals are too incompetent to celebrate what it means to live a life? If so, I guess that means other lowly professionals such as first responders don’t know what this means, either. After all, those people only help save other human beings from terrible situations like, for instance, impending death. No biggie. They don’t appreciate what it means to live life, though. Fuck those people in danger. Can’t believe somebody that doesn’t know how to celebrate living a life has to do such a thing. Sad!

I’m not even going to get into the millions of other professions that celebrate what it means to live a life (or the fact that you probably can’t name more than two of your friends that have actually seen the movie, Fences). The real concern here is the fact that there are people in this world that can come up with statements like this. Only people in Hollywood can say something as fucking stupid as this in front of an audience of millions of other people that don’t share their same profession and get away with it. And you know what the worst part is? the majority of the audience still applauds this type of bullshit! Are people really this dumb? Just because somebody knows how to pretend to be another person doesn’t mean they have a functioning brain that has the ability to manifest itself with reality. It blows my mind that there are people in this world that can’t comprehend the fact that most actors are completely deranged human beings. My only conclusion here is that somebody that understands “the craft” must really know what they’re talking about. Or not. You decide for yourself.
