So this was probably the most exciting game in the entire NHL this year. The Caps were rolling into PPG Paints Arena with a 9-game winning streak, and the Pens were coming off their worst losing streak in like nine years. Didn’t matter. The Pens did what they do best tonight and made the Caps their bitch (again).

Trailing 3-0 in the second period, Patric Hornqvist stirred shit up by delivering a little forearm shiver to T.J. Oshie’s pie hole.

Next thing you know the Pens score three goals in 2:27 to tie the game up. And they weren’t done there. Evgeni Malkin once again showed why he’s the most dominant Russian on the planet (minus Putin, of course) by recording his 11th hat trick of his career, and helping the Pens to a 6-5 lead after 2 periods.

The 3rd period was inevitable. Sid lit the lamp for his 27th goal of the season before the Caps eventually tied it up 7-7 to go into OT. Before Caps fans could even clench their buttholes tight enough for the start of OT, Conor Sheary found the back of the net in :34. Just another heartbreaking loss for the Caps, which ended the regular season series between the two teams, 2-2.

This game just felt like something that we’re all about to witness again in the next few months – that is, another agonizing Caps playoff defeat to the Pens. You have to almost feel bad for Caps fans at this point. They’re always one of the best teams in the regular season. Yet, they come into the playoffs every year thinking, “this is going to be our year” until a team like the Penguins beat the living piss out of them. This year feels no different. These two teams are destined to meet in May for another best-of-7, and I’ve got a strong feeling it’s going to look a lot like 2016.
